From Mineral Soil to a Living Environment

Taming the void. Today, when we look at the Gorges quarry in Clisson, we see an 81-meter-deep pit—once a site of mining extraction—and a town still bearing the scars of construction dust.

Objective: The core idea of this project is simple yet profound: stop ignoring this landscape injury and transform it into the new beating heart of the community.

The Challenge

Turn constraint into opportunity: Where machines and noisy installations currently stand, we will plant trees and design a large park. This is not just green space—it’s a promise of culture. In Clisson, residents have long lacked a place to gather.

Project

These spaces will become our new open-air stage, a vibrant hub where music, laughter, and community events will finally replace the silence of rocks.

Water as a connector. At the bottom of this dramatic crater, water will reclaim its place. What was once a site of extraction will become a blue sanctuary. Imagine diving into the depths of the earth or paddling a kayak beneath sheer cliffs. This breathtaking landscape is now open to all—offering residents a natural aquatic park or extending into a new hiking trail along the Sèvre River.

Reconnecting the links. For this project to truly belong to the people of Clisson, we will link it to what they already cherish: the banks of the Sèvre Nantaise. A new path will extend existing trails all the way to the heart of the project. You no longer just "visit the quarry"—you walk through a landscape that now breathes, weaving together the gentleness of the river with the strength and vitality of this new place of life.
